Neumarkt / Egna

In the South Tyrolean Unterland, situated in the middle of vineyards and apple trees, there is the idyllic town of Neumarkt/Egna. The town centre is characterized by the many narrow streets and arcades with a mix of southern and rural flair. The well-situated town with its pompous residences is among the most beautiful towns in Italy. The town is famous for its Blauburgunder wine and as it is very close to the Fleimstal valley and the provincial capital of Bozen, there are plenty of possibilities for leisure activities.

Discovering Neumarkt

Walks, hikes, or cycling trips: Neumarkt has something to offer for everybody! The cycling trail along the river Etsch, which takes you to the Unterland, the Etschtal, and to Meran, is particularly beautiful.

Also, the neighbouring Nature Park Trudner Horn/Monte Corno offers plenty of possibilities for hikes.

Many events take place in Neumarkt. Among the most famous are the theatre performances “Unterlandler Freilichtspiele” and the Arcade Festival in August. This is the oldest event of this kind in South Tyrol and takes place under the historic arcades, where many different associations pamper the visitors with traditional dishes and delicious wines.

The Christmas market in the old part of the town is particularly beautiful. Small, nicely decorated wooden houses open their doors during Christmas time. The Christmas market has a very special atmosphere because of the open fireplace, traditional handicrafts, and a variety of music.
