Jaufental / Valgiovo

Located in the north of South Tyrol, the Valgiovo/Jaufental connects Vipiteno/Sterzing with the Val Passiria/Passeiertal. From the village of Casateia/Gasteig, the valley winds up to the Passo Giovo/Jaufenpass at an altitude of 2,094 metres. Away from the hustle and bustle,  in the small villages and side valleys you will find idyllic natural landscapes.

On quiet paths through the Valgiovo/Jaufental

If you want to explore the landscape from Valgiovo/Jaufental on foot in summer, you have many possibilities. A popular hike is the one to the Rifugio passo giovo/Jaufenhaus, but also many mountain huts like the Malga Saxnerhütte or the Malga Calice/Kalcheralm are really recommended. If you want to hike up to the summit, you can hike up to the Punta di Mezzodì/Mittagsspitze and enjoy the fabulous view from there.

If you are in Valgiovo/Jaufental during the cold season, you can enjoy the fabulous white winter landscape. In addition to leisurely hikes through the snow, there are several ski areas nearby to choose from: Racines-Giovo/Ratschings-Jaufen, Montecavallo/Rosskopf in Vipiteno/Sterzing and the ski resort Ladurns in Colle Isarco/Gossensass.
