Kohlern / Colle

The small mountain village of Kohlern in the holiday region of southern South Tyrol, is located only a few kilometres form the provincial capital of Bozen and is the ideal holiday destination for everybody who is looking for calmness. Kohlern is also known as Bozen’s “green lung” and that is for a good reason: around the mountain village, you can enjoy the untouched nature to the fullest.

Wonderful views

Kohlern is easy to reach by cable car, which by the way is the oldest in Europe. In only 7 minutes, you will arrive at 1,108 metres and there you can enjoy a very special view. From Bozen to the Überetsch and the Unterland. In the background there are the breath-taking South Tyrolean mountains. Directly next to the mountain station, there is a viewing tower, where the view is even more spectacular.

Kohlern is the perfect destination for everybody who wants to spend an active holiday. Many marked hiking trails start in Kohlern and its surroundings. Also, the popular long-distance hiking trail E5 goes from Kohlern to Deutschnofen. For all mountain bikers there is also a quite demanding downhill track from Kohlern to Bozen.

When winter comes, in Kohlern, a romantic walk through the snowy landscape is the perfect thing to do! If you want to go skiing, there are some skiing areas nearby. From the valley station of the cable car, it takes you only 20 minutes by car to go to the ski resort Obereggen/Latemar. Thanks to the connection with the neighbouring Val di Fiemme, here you can enjoy 111 kilometres of slopes. The ski area Reinswald in the Sarntal Alps is a 40 minutes’ drive away and there you can find one of the longest toboggan runs in South Tyrol.
