Lengmoos / Longomoso

The village of Lengmoos/Longomoso is situated at an altitude of 1,150m and is part of the municipality Ritten/Renon. Lengmoos is only about one kilometre away from Klobenstein/Collalbo, the municipality’s main village. The elevated plateau of Ritten is a very popular tourist destination and offers plenty of culture and leisure activities. Also, it is worth a visit because of the great view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The plateau can easily be reached by car or by public transport: by cable car from Bolzano/Bozen to Oberbozen/Soprabolzano and then on by train.

Lengmoos in summer

During summer, in Lengmoos – as well as in the whole area of Ritten – you can choose between a variety of hiking and cycling itineraries. For example, you can hike to the peak of Rittner Horn/Corno del Renon and enjoy the view of the Dolomites, the Schlern/Sciliar, the Rosengarten/Catinaccio and the Latemar. Because of this view, the Rittner Horn is considered the most beautiful viewpoint in the Alps.

After your hike, you can relax in one of the many restaurants and huts and enjoy traditional South Tyrolean food. Furthermore, you can visit the famous earth pyramids – e.g., in the gorge of the Finsterbach creek between Lengmoos and Mittelberg, or in the Katzenbach creek gorge near Oberbozen. For animal lovers in Ritten there are a variety of possibilities for hikes with lamas or alpacas.

Lengmoos in winter

In winter, the ski resort Rittner Horn/Corno del Renon is great for skiing and snowboarding. There is a cable car, two ski lifts and not too steep slopes, which makes the resort perfect for families with children. Also, there is a cross-county-trail, natural toboggan runs, and a variety of winter hiking trails, which make it the perfect place for all winter sports lovers. Those who enjoy watching sports once in a while can visit the Ritten Arena, where world cups in speed skating and ice hockey games take place.

Cultural events

Culture lovers should visit the parish church “Maria Himmelfahrt” and the Commandery of the Teutonic Knights. Between May and October, exhibitions, concerts, and conferences are organized in the unique atmosphere of the commandery’s old halls. Furthermore, the open-air theatre event called “Rittner Festspiele” takes place in the commandery every year during the summer months. This tradition dates back to the 17th century. Another attraction not to miss for nature and culture lovers is the beekeeping museum at Platterhof.
