Vahrn / Neustift / Varna / Novacella

Only a few kilometres from the city of Bressanone/Brixen there is Varna/Vahrn - often referred to as the "suburb" of Bressanone/Brixen. The smaller villages of Novacella/Neustift, Scaleres/Schalders and Spelonca/Spiluk also belong to the municipality of Varna/Vahrn. The surrounding landscape is made up of orchards and vineyards. The mountains protect the area from cold northern winds, making the mild climate ideal for viticulture.

Highlights in Varna/Vahrn and surroundings

Especially the Abbazia di Novacella (Monastery Neustift/Novacella) attracts numerous visitors every year. It is one of the oldest monasteries in Tyrol and today it comprises a private school, a conference centre and a wine cellar.

The Lago di Varna lake, which is used as a bathing lake in summer and is also a nature reserve, is particularly recommended especially for families.

The two villages of Spelonca/Spiluck and Scaleres/Schalder are a little more demanding to reach. From there you have a wonderful view over the surrounding mountains. Afterwards, you can go to the Rio Scaleres: in the oldest Kneipp therapy facility in South Tyrol, a very special adventure trail was built along the stream.

In the area around Varna/Vahrn you can also go hiking and cycling. In winter you can easily reach several ski areas - you are spoilt for choice between Plose near Bressanone/Brixen, the Gitschberg-Jochtal ski area or the Kronplatz ski resort near Brunico/Bruneck. The beautiful Christmas market in Bressanone/Brixen is also worth a visit in winter.
